Carl is a Rotary Wing Test Pilot Instructor at ITPS, with a distinguished career that began in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1976. He received his military wings in 1980 and served in various branches, including tours in Valcartier, Cold Lake, Toronto, and Ottawa, retiring in 1995 while in a staff position.

After his military service, Carl joined Bell Helicopter, working as a production test pilot for all commercial Bell products in Canada from 1995 to 1998. He then transitioned to an experimental test pilot role from 1998 to 2020. His international experience includes instructing for the Royal Saudi Air Force in Italy and Saudi Arabia and serving as a Flight Simulator Instructor for Algerian pilots at Flight Safety International in Fort Worth. Carl has also been a consultant on various aerospace projects.
