Alain is a highly experienced pilot with a background in Mechanical Engineering from Université Laval. He started his aviation career flying the F-5 operationally with the RCAF and later graduated from the Empire Test Pilot School. He was assigned to AETE, CFB Cold Lake, where he conducted testing on the F-5, F-18, and Bombardier-Challenger. Alain then completed an exchange with the USAF at Edwards AFB, where he worked on various projects including the Improved Performance Engine Certification (GE-129 and PW-229), Positive Pressure Breathing for G Suits Evaluation, and external stores/weapons testing on the F-16.
Transitioning to the Reserves, Alain flew the Kiowa (Bell-206) and worked as a charter pilot on the Fokker-100. He then joined Bombardier as a test pilot, contributing to the CRJ (Certification of Head-up Display to CAT III approaches, Intermediate Takeoff Flap setting, and Upgraded Engine) and the Global Express (high-speed and slow-speed envelope expansion). Alain later flew commercially for a major airline, accumulating extensive experience on the CRJ, Embraer-175/190, Airbus A319/320/321, and Boeing 767. He served as a Training Captain, Type Rated Examiner, and Maintenance Captain.
With 49 years of flying experience, Alain has logged 17,000 hours on 47 aircraft types, including 2,700 hours in flight test operations.
