Flight Test Engineer and Instructor

Flight Test Engineer and Instructor works closely with an integrated team to provide contracted flight test services and provide flight test training.

About the Occupation:

  • The delivery of the academic course using appropriate instructional techniques and equipment
  • The use of mentoring and remedial teaching skills, where necessary to strengthen students’ academic abilities
    The supervision, monitoring and marking of student progress tests as appropriate to the TKI’s subject field
  • The practice and maintenance of the highest academic standards
  • Monitoring the progress of individual students and briefing this on a regular basis to the Chief
  • Theoretical knowledge instructor and Head of Training; in the case of concerns about student progress this should be reported to the Chief Theoretical knowledge instructor and the Head of Training as soon as possible
  • Provide Mentorship to Junior Engineers
  • The FTI shall ensure that students are correctly briefed and prepared for flying exercises
  • The FTI shall ensure that Risk Assessments are completed
  • The FTI shall authorize flights within his or her powers of authorization
  • The FTI shall ensure that the students receive proper flight exercise demonstrations and that students have the opportunity to practice, flight test techniques and data-gathering techniques
  • The FTI shall ensure that course flights are properly debriefed and that a Sortie Report Assessment is generated to monitor student progress
  • The FTI shall ensure that students prepare and submit reports for exercises managed by the FTI as required by the syllabus and act as first marker of such reports. The FTI shall monitor the progress of individual students and brief this on a regular basis to the appropriate CFI and HoT
  • The FTI shall in the case of concerns about student progress report to the CFI or HoT as soon as possible
    Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager

Requirements:

  • Graduate of a one-year Flight Test Engineer Course
  • Minimum of 5+ years experience in developmental and certification flight testing
  • Experience spanning performance, flying qualities, avionics and weapons testing is desirable
  • Demonstrable experience in testing of either military or civil requirements is desirable
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Mathematics
  • Be prepared to travel and spend periods abroad working on flight test related projects
