ITPS Canada has provided a fully fledged Fighter Weapons Instructor Course to the Royal Malaysian Air Force. The training programme is available to the air forces of allied or friendly nations subject to Department of National Defence and Canadian Government approval.

FIGHTER WEAPONS INSTRUCTOR COURSE
Operational combat experience in recent conflicts has indicated a need to emphasise tactical leadership in FWI training to ensure that graduates can teach the skills required of fighter pilots to effectively operate within a Combined Air Operations scenario, a major feature of recent conflicts.

The ITPS FWI course is designed to bring together the best of the lessons learned from combat experience and the development of the Western FWI, QWI and WTI courses. It includes a comprehensive ground school element to review modern fighter systems their operational applications and limitations, followed by weapons and tactics instruction.

The ITPS course is presented by highly experienced Fighter Weapons Instructors (FWI), with considerable experience in both the instructional and operational roles. The course format is modular, to maximise flexibility.

The aim of the course is to graduate FWIs that will become highly competent tactical leaders and that will be immediately capable of undertaking instructional duties as weapons and tactical leadership instructors. Graduates will be able to provide insight and guidance to higher headquarters on the most effective deployment of their specific platform and its systems in service. They will also be capable of undertaking R & D work in fighter tactics, specialising in weapons tactics and conducting weapons trials in conjunction with other personnel of specific specializations.

The course duration is eighteen weeks and includes an intensive groundschool and a flight operations phase. The flying phase includes 34 sorties per student, building up from Basic Fighter Manoeuvers to complex COMAO (Combined Air Operations) exercises. The course duration and content can be adjusted to meet specific customer requirements.

TACTICAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

THE AIM of the TACTICAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM is to enhance the tactical capability of the participants, and to develop their ability to plan, brief and execute a given task in a professional manner. The course is suitable for preparing future Mission Commanders (MCs). MCs should be able to identify problem areas associated with a complex task and combine all resources available to achieve the mission objectives.

The course aims to aid in developing leadership abilities, thus enabling candidates to effectively perform their duties. Upon completion of the TDP the participants will be able conduct a Combined Air Operation (COMAO) as MC. The course is structured to deliver the necessary knowledge and skill in a short time and the programming is consequently very tight and demanding.

The course is of 5 week duration including 1 week academic lecturing. The lecture plan covers all the necessary tools and is divided into topics and split up further into sessions.
